Benevolence

Mission Statement:  To extend our love, kindness, and support to others; as these were so freely given to us by our Savior.

“Suppose someone has enough to live and sees a brother or sister in need, but does not help.  Then God’s love is not living in that person.  My children, we should love people not only with words and talk, but by our actions and true caring.”

1 John 3:17-18

Benevolence

  • Tendency to be kind, helpful, or generous.

  • Generous act; something done or given out of kindness.

“I was hungry, and you gave me food.  I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink.  I was alone and away from home, and you invited me into your house.  I was without clothes, and you gave me something to wear.  I was sick, and you cared for me.  I was in prison, and you visited me.”

Matthew 25:35-36

Through the generosity and kindness of our members, Willowbrook has become known as the church that helps people in their time of need.  Both in and out of our community, people have been directed to Willowbrook for assistance with needs they currently cannot meet; like food, diapers, utility bills, transportation, and rent.  Although church membership is not a requirement to receive aid, we go the extra mile to help when a Willowbrook family member needs us.  Besides the calls we received for assistance, the Benevolence ministry helps in some of the following areas…

Food Cupboard

The Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard stocks non-perishable food items for area residents who need assistance.  We maintain a donation bin in our lobby, and your contributions are, and have always been gratefully accepted!  Willowbrook is one of the local churches that contributes towards the cost of rent for the Food Cupboard.

Homeless Ministry

Donations of food and weather appropriate clothing are accepted on an ongoing basis, and delivered every month to our homeless brothers who “live” in the abandoned subway tunnels and parking garages of Rochester.  The homeless of today are like the lepers of ancient times – an outcast, destitute in spirit, shunned by others, and most importantly in need of a Savior.  By following the example of Jesus and showing His love to the unlovable, we hope to open their hearts to His love and grace.  This is a difficult ministry, and the results of our work are not immediately seen.  All who participate in this ministry believe we have planted a seed that may one day blossom into a saved soul.

School 22

(“Whoever accepts a child in my name accepts me.” – Matthew 18:5)

An inner-city school, low on funds and high on needs, Lincoln School #22 touched our hearts.  Many of the children live in poverty and come from broken homes.  Willowbrook has donated school supplies, clothing, and people to help (ongoing donations are always gratefully accepted).  Mentoring programs are being created that will result in future opportunities to love and support these children.

Christmas!

The season of God’s greatest gift offers many ways for us to help.  Some of our projects include the Angel Tree, ARC Gift Wrapping, Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Samaritan’s Purse, and any other opportunities we can find!

Future Opportunities

A new ministry in process is called NIMS (Neighbors in Ministry for Seniors).  This is a collaborative effort with local churches to provide services for area disabled and senior citizens; including transportation, assistance with home needs, and spiritual support.  Please stay posted for more information.

Then the King will answer, “I tell you the truth, anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me”.

Matthew 25:40

Nursery & Toddler

We believe that children are important and should be treated with the love and care Jesus showed to all. We try to provide a safe, nurturing environment that will not only care for your child effectively, but will begin to lay the foundation for your child's future faith and life; thus, one of our main goals is to help you lead your child to God!

The Nursery Ministry is a service provided to families with little ones.  Children (6 weeks to 2 years old) are welcome to join us during the 9 & 11:15 a.m. assemblies, and during the 10:15 a.m. Willowbrook U hour.   Loving and caring adult volunteers staff the nursery. The room is equipped with a changing table, two rocking chairs, and a wide variety of safe, fun, age-appropriate toys.

The Toddler Room provides children (2 to 4 years old) a place to learn during the 10:15 a.m. Willowbrook U hour and a place to play during the 11:15 a.m. assembly. Loving and caring adult volunteers staff the toddler room. This room has a wide variety of safe, age-appropriate toys that promote interactive play.

Children's Ministry

Looking for a fun way to do church for kids?

Willowbrook Children's Ministry, Connecting Children with Jesus

Every Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m., Kidz Quest is offered for children kindergarten through fifth grade. It is a fun-filled one hour adventure focusing on how to live life based on biblical principles. Through interactive lessons, games, and crafts, children discover God's truth in a nurturing environment.

Kidz Klub is an hour and a half of great fun. Each week we split up into two groups, Pathfinders (for kindergarten through second graders), and Junior Youth Group (for third through fifth graders). This enables us to do cool age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, snacks, and lessons. Each evening is focused around a theme that teaches Christian values and how to live life together. Kidz Klub is every Tuesday night that the children are in school, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the church building.

Any Special Events?

Each month during the school year we host special events for children. This past year we took a road trip to a sister church's Fall Festival, we had a magician and the Fishers' Fire Department visit us, we had a Carnival night, movie and music nights, and a Family Feast Night (where kids, parents, and guests enjoyed a delicious pass-the-dish dinner and entertainment).

What About Summer?

Each summer we offer various activities for the children. This past summer we hosted a week long, originally designed, Vacation Bible School program and had "Kids' Summer Fun" days where the children had an opportunity to use up some energy and learn a little bit more about how God wants us to live.

Filew

(Phileo)

Junior High.  (The years when your life goes from mostly carefree to really tough.)

High School.  (The years when choices are made and habits are formed that impact the entire course of your life.)

Our goal for the Willowbrook Christian Church Youth Group is to provide students with the skills and the support they need to go through these years – and not just to survive these difficult years, but to thrive in them – to be kids who can make a difference in their schools, who can show their peers and their teachers what somebody can do when Jesus helps!

To accomplish that, we are targeting 4 areas of emphasis this year:

(1)               improving Biblical literacy of kids who are in our youth group.

(2)             creating a sense of unity among our students,

(3)             fostering a deep appreciation for the joy of serving others, and

(4)             strengthening the bond between parents and kids.

When given the chance to choose a name for this year’s group, Phileo was the pick.  It’s a Greek word that means “love” (for example, Phila-delphia is the city of “brotherly love”), and our group decided it represented best what we’re trying to do together!

We meet on Sunday nights from 6:30 – 8:30.  (That’s for both Junior High and Senior High kids – altogether – which is great as they all discover that there is much value in hanging out with kids who are not in their grade!)  Along with parents and young adults who are willing to help, our Sunday night gatherings are made up of team building stuff and studying the Bible, watching videos and eating, we play volleyball and Scum, we talk about life and laugh and pray together.

We also have small groups that meet during the week so that age-specific Bible applications can be part of students’ lives each week.

We also do service projects to give teenagers a chance to practice the spiritual discipline of being great (“the greatest among you”, Jesus said, “is the servant of all!”).  We clean the church building together.  We ring bells for the Salvation Army.  We help with yardwork for those who can’t do that themselves.

Youth rallies, overnighters, trips to Christian colleges, summer camp, mission trips, all part of what we do in order to show students the best way to do life – with Jesus and others who are trying to be like Him!

Women's Ministry
WellSpring

WellSpring Women’s Ministry seeks to encourage women to build a strong relationship with God through prayer, personal Bible study, and fellowship, while also developing lasting friendships with other women.  Bible Studies, get-away times, yearly retreats and conferences, and regular get-togethers enable our women to learn more about how our relationship with God applies to our daily lives and foster friendships that offer encouragement, comfort, counsel, strength and fun.

“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

                                 Colassians 2:2-3 NIV

We invite you to join us in any of our activities at any time; we look forward to meeting you.

WellSpring life groups are designed for all women of our community, of all ages and backgrounds, to come together for a relaxing time of fellowship and fun and participate in activities of personal interest.  It will be a great opportunity to bring some friends or make some friends, encouraging one another and fellowshipping with those who are like-minded.  We will meet 2 times per week (Sunday Morning and Tuesday Evening).  This will be a terrific time of learning from God’s Word, sharing in prayer requests, and developing lasting friendships.

Piecemakers

The purpose of this ministry is to provide a handmade lap quilt to the parents of each infant in our congregation.

Life Groups

Life Groups at Willowbrook

We want to help everyone at Willowbrook Christian Church find and be part of an active Life Group.  We believe Life Groups are the key to connecting in a biblical way with other members at Willowbrook.  A Life Group provides healthy fellowship in a community marked by Christian love and oneness.  Life Groups can help you to “grow up” as a Christian.

Do you desire to become more like Christ?

Are you looking for a way to connect more deeply with others at Willowbrook?

Are you wanting to grow in prayer, Bible study, support & accountability?

If so, then a Willowbrook Life Group is for you.

It’s easy to get lost in the crowd – to feel lonely even though you may be surrounded by worshippers on a given Sunday.  That’s why we have a Life Group ministry.  We want everyone to have the opportunity to be known and cared for.

People grow faster spiritually in a caring, interactive group where they can feel free to ask their real questions and sense the support of the group.  All of the “one another” commands in Scripture (love one another; pray for one another, be kind to one another) can only be truly obeyed and experienced in a smaller group.

There are about 15 Life Groups at Willowbrook that meet throughout the week in various times and various places.  Their leaders are all volunteers – people who love to help others group as disciples of Christ.   We have a Men’s group, a few women’s groups, a group for couples, a few family groups, and still others getting ready to start up.

If you’d like to get involved with a small group at Willowbrook Christian Church, e-mail wcleary@rochester.rr.com

Stewardship Ministry

Our Mission

To provide and execute a program to increase the financial resources of Willowbrook to support the current congregation and to start the financing for future growth.

2 Corinthians 9: 7-8

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  And God is able to make all grace abound in you, so that in all things and at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Offering Process

An offering process has been put into place to help Willowbrook Christian Church and all of us in the congregation support our vision and dreams.  By having an offering process, we make an annual commitment to God to financially support Willowbrook.  This commitment allows the staff and ministry directors to plan their activities for the next year. By having predictable and sustainable monies available to them, their focus will be on achieving their goals and growing His Kingdom.

The offering process consists of a Pledge Card and Offering Envelopes.  Your role is to prayerfully ask Him to help you know and give you guidance on what your financial commitment to Willowbrook should be for the year.  You then fill out the pledge card and it is  collected on Celebration Sunday (the last Sunday in October).

You may then pick up your offering envelopes in the lobby after the service.  These envelopes will allow you to easily make you weekly/monthly offering.  Please try to remember to use your envelope as they have your identifier number in the corner.  That number and the envelope is used for tax recording purposes.  Only one person, our financial secretary, will know what you have given over the course of a year.  The offering commitment starts on the first Sunday in November and ends with the last week in October.  Anyone may make  a financial pledge to Willowbrook after the start of the fiscal year.  Commitment cards are available in the office or on the Stewardship bulletin board.  The church secretary or the Stewardship Director can get you your pledge envelopes.

New members to our committee would be greatly appreciated.  We meet monthly on the 4th Saturday at the church from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.  Please call the director to confirm before attending.

Facilities

Facilities is a ministry that works behind the scenes to make sure that people’s experience at Willowbrook is centered around worship and not distracted by building disrepair or dirt.  We work to make the interior and exterior of the building look attractive and inviting.  We cut grass in the summer and plow in the winter.  We paint when necessary, wax floors, and change light bulbs.  If our job is done well, people won’t notice; which is good, we would rather their attention was focused on hearing God’s Word and worshiping Him.

If you have a heart to serve in ways that don’t necessarily put you in the spotlight, then we would be glad to help you do so.  And we would be glad for your help.

2008 Plow Schedule

Again we owe Ed Cary some duck tape and baling wire for patching up the Bronco.  The only thing that doesn’t work at the moment, is the fuel gauge.  Thanks a million ED!!

Alright Guys… same drill!   After your name will appear a date(s).  That date will be a Sunday.  Your week will be the week before that Sunday.  If it helps, think of the date after your name as a deadline to have the lots cleared. Preferably by 8am. on that date.
Our goal is this... during the week, we would like to have the driveway and upper lot kept clean, by Sunday at 8am we want to have both lots clean.
We again have a pretty nice rotation this year, so feel free to team up and help each other.  The sidewalks can always use attention.

For you old guys, young Mr. Cleary has offered his help, shoveling. So, when it snows hard, and you need a hand please e-mail him that you’d like a hand, or call him.  Now that the plow is working again, perhaps someone can teach him to plow.

Willowbrook Missions

Our Mission Statement: Create a Willowbrook passion for connecting people with Jesus and administrate the
fruit of that passion on a global scale.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Matt 28: 19-20

What do you do when you find a great deal? SHARE IT!!.
How about something that changes your life? SHARE IT!!.

Yes, you want to share it with others.  Missions is not some big scary thing.  It is sharing with others how God has changed your life.  As believers, we have a responsibility to share the Gospel with friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and even those in other countries.

Excited about what God wants to do through you?"

Worship Ministry

Hello fellow worshippers!

What a great season for praising God.  There are so many ways to praise and serve Him, and I just want to remind you that in the Creative Arts Ministry we are looking for talented musicians and vocalists to join us once a month to help make our time of worship glorifying to our Lord.  If you are a musician see Greg Davis, the crazy piano player, with the matching hair! And if you are interested in singing see myself, Nicole Reed.

If you are not talented in the music department but enjoy being a part there are many other ways in which you can serve.  We have begun using a very cool program called Media Shout to play our slides for each Sunday, but the program cannot work with out a hand to click those slides, so if you have some experience with computers we would love to have you run visuals once a month and be the one to help everyone sing along as we worship together.  (Training is provided, so no experience is needed).

If you have any experience working with sound boards we would also love to have you join us.

With Christmas coming up this is a great time to join and be part of a fun creative ministry.
