Willowbrook Student Ministries

Willowbrook U

The Student Education Program Of Willowbrook Christian Church

Willowbrook U is part of the Willowbrook Christian Church -- a bunch of people trying to make the world better by connecting people with Jesus and with each other in healthy relationships. We figure the Bible is true and that helping people is the way we were made to live best -- and that's why Jesus asks us to!

Willowbrook U was started in the fall of 1999 and provides a nurturing,  safe environment where children can come, hang out, and learn God's Word in fun and fresh ways.

The mission statement we use to guide Willowbrook U is this -- we are "real friends using the Scripture to help one another know Jesus and how to live life for Him."

In Willowbrook U, kids of all ages are welcomed, accepted, encouraged,  and helped to grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus through studying the Bible, so that they can be used by God in His church and in the world.

What classes does Willowbrook U offer?

  • On Sunday mornings, from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m., Willowbrook U holds classes for 2 year olds through 6th grade which teach kids from a young age to love God and His word.

  • Willowbrook U also features a 7th-8th grade class and a 9th-12th grade class which deal with real issues for junior & senior high students trying to live in a relationship with God.

  • From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., there is a kindergarten through 5th grade class called
"Kidz Quest", which trains kids in God's truth
    in fun and fresh ways.

Nursery & Toddler

We believe that children are important and should be treated with the love and care Jesus showed to all. We try to provide a nurturing environment that will not only care for your child effectively, but will begin to lay the foundation for your child's future faith and life; thus, one of our main goals is to help you lead your child to God!

The Nursery Ministry is a service provided to families with little ones. Children (one month to two years old) are welcome to join us during the 9 & 11:15 a.m. assemblies, and during the 10:15 a.m. Willowbrook U hour. Loving and caring adults and teenage volunteers staff the nursery. The room is equipped with a changing table, port-a-crib, two rocking chairs,  and a wide variety of safe, fun, age-appropriate toys.

The Toddler Room provides children (two to four years old) a place to play during the 11:15 a.m. assembly. Loving and caring adults and teenage volunteers staff the toddler room. This room has a wide variety of safe, age-appropriate toys that promote interactive play. The staff encourages each child to participate in various activities such as drawing, coloring, making
things out of play dough, and interacting with each other.

Children's Ministry

Looking for a fun way to do church for kids?

Willowbrook Children's Ministry, Connecting Children with Jesus

Every Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m., Kidz Quest is offered for children kindergarten through fifth grade. It is a fun-filled one hour adventure focusing on how to live life based on biblical principles. Through interactive lessons, games, and crafts, children discover God's truth in a nurturing environment.

Kidz Klub is an hour and a half of great fun. Each week we split up into two groups, Pathfinders (for kindergarten through second graders), and Junior Youth Group (for third through fifth graders). This enables us to do cool age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, snacks, and lessons. Each evening is focused around a theme that teaches Christian values and how to live life together. Kidz Klub is every Tuesday night that the children are in school, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the church building.

Any Special Events?

Each month during the school year we host special events for children. This past year we took a road trip to a sister church's Fall Festival, we had a magician and the Fishers' Fire Department visit us, we had a Carnival night, movie and music nights, and a Family Feast Night (where kids, parents, and guests enjoyed a delicious pass-the-dish dinner and entertainment).

What About Summer?

Each summer we offer various activities for the children. This past summer we hosted a week long, originally designed, Vacation Bible School program and had "Kids' Summer Fun" days where the children had an opportunity to use up some energy and learn a little bit more about how God wants us to live.

Filew

(Phileo)

Junior High.  (The years when your life goes from mostly carefree to really tough.)

High School.  (The years when choices are made and habits are formed that impact the entire course of your life.)

Our goal for the Willowbrook Christian Church Youth Group is to provide students with the skills and the support they need to go through these years – and not just to survive these difficult years, but to thrive in them – to be kids who can make a difference in their schools, who can show their peers and their teachers what somebody can do when Jesus helps!

To accomplish that, we are targeting 4 areas of emphasis this year:

(1)               improving Biblical literacy of kids who are in our youth group.

(2)             creating a sense of unity among our students,

(3)             fostering a deep appreciation for the joy of serving others, and

(4)             strengthening the bond between parents and kids.

When given the chance to choose a name for this year’s group, Phileo was the pick.  It’s a Greek word that means “love” (for example, Phila-delphia is the city of “brotherly love”), and our group decided it represented best what we’re trying to do together!

We meet on Sunday nights from 6:30 – 8:30.  (That’s for both Junior High and Senior High kids – altogether – which is great as they all discover that there is much value in hanging out with kids who are not in their grade!)  Along with parents and young adults who are willing to help, our Sunday night gatherings are made up of team building stuff and studying the Bible, watching videos and eating, we play volleyball and Scum, we talk about life and laugh and pray together.

We also have small groups that meet during the week so that age-specific Bible applications can be part of students’ lives each week.

We also do service projects to give teenagers a chance to practice the spiritual discipline of being great (“the greatest among you”, Jesus said, “is the servant of all!”).  We clean the church building together.  We ring bells for the Salvation Army.  We help with yardwork for those who can’t do that themselves.  We participated with a bunch of other youth groups in a week where serving the disabled, the elderly, and the poor was the sole reason for coming together.

And, we do stuff just for the sake of enjoying time together.  Recently, we took a trip to Buffalo to be part of a Kutless concert, we spent a night bowling together, we did team building at Camp Arrowhead one afternoon, we drove to Syracuse to be part of a football tournament! All of that because it’s fun to be together!  And there is more in store!

Youth rallies, overnighters, trips to Christian colleges, summer camp, mission trips, all part of what we do in order to show students the best way to do life – with Jesus and others who are trying to be like Him!
